Traditional methods currently used by physicians rely on identifying sounds that are already known and annotated as indicative of Tuberculosis. Our system uses bacteriological confirmation as a reference to create correlations between lung sounds and TB. This enables the detection of patterns that were not previously identified clinically, and are generally indistinguishable to the human ear.
No. The system only detects Pulmonary TB, which makes up 83% of global TB cases. Due to its contagiousness, Pulmonary TB is responsible for spreading the disease, which makes early diagnosis essential to stopping the epidemic.
No. The system will not differentiate between drug-resistant and drug-susceptible TB. Bacteriological testing is still required for this. However, early detection of TB means patients are treated when Mycobacterium Tuberculosis counts are still relatively low, thereby reducing the chance of developing drug-resistant TB.
AI Diagnostics hardware is 100x more affordable than digital X-ray machines. The software licence fee is less than a third of the cost when compared to the cost of radiologists manually analysing X-rays at the same volumes. Instead of requiring a limited number of radiographers to capture the X-rays, community health workers can be trained to operate the AI Diagnostics' screening tool.
